so, you've probably heard the rumors, but it's official now - playstation is ditching physical discs for new games starting january 2028. i mean, it's not like it's a huge surprise or anything, since pretty much everyone's been shifting to digital anyway. but still, it's kind of sad to think that we won't be getting those shiny new discs anymore.

i guess it's just a sign of the times, you know? people are more into digital stuff now, and it's easier to just download a game than to have to go out and buy a physical copy. plus, it's better for the environment and all that. but at the same time, there's something about having a physical copy of a game that just feels more special. maybe it's just me, but i love being able to hold a game in my hands and admire the cover art.

anyway, the good news is that this only applies to new games, so if you've already got a bunch of physical copies, you don't have to worry about them becoming obsolete or anything. and if you're someone who still prefers physical discs, you'll still be able to buy them for games that are released before january 2028. after that, though, it's all digital, all the time. you'll be able to get new games from the playstation store or at retailers, but they'll all be digital formats only.
