omg you guys, have you heard about ace combat 8: wings of theve? it's the latest installment in the series and it's all about being a fighter pilot in a war that's not exactly going in your favor. the story is super emotional and it's all about trying to keep your country's military alive, even when things seem hopeless.

i love that the game starts off with a pretty bleak scenario - the republic of sotoa has launched a surprise attack on the federation of central usea, and you're one of the few remaining pilots trying to make a difference. you join up with this aircraft carrier crew, the endurance, and they've got this whole propaganda thing going on to try and keep morale up. they've created this legendary pilot, the wings of theve, who's supposed to be this amazing hero, but really it's just a normal guy named rex who's been tasked with making appearances and then bailing.

but things take a turn when you're shot down and rex is killed, and then you're tasked with taking on the wings of theve persona to keep the lie alive. it's pretty cool how the game conveys this story through these immersive first-person cinematics, which is a new thing for the series. it really adds to the emotional weight of the game and makes you feel like you're right there in the midst of all the action.

the gameplay itself is pretty slick, and if you're a fan of the series, you'll feel right at home. the controls are easy to learn, but there's still a lot of complexity to the flight mechanics, so you'll need to build up your skills to survive some of the tougher missions. i love that you can issue orders to your comrades and work together as a team
