omg, you guys, i just heard about the most insane modding project - someone got counter-strike running on a psp, like, what even is that? it's crazy to think that a 22-year-old handheld console can still be breathed new life into, and this modder, yifeng wang, is a total genius for making it happen.

so, basically, this mod is called openstrike, and it's a counter-strike clone that runs at 60 fps on the psp, which is just wild. the modder built their own 3d engine and javascript engine from scratch, and the result is a super lightweight game that only uses 12 mb of ram. i mean, that's just crazy efficient, and it's a testament to the modder's skills that they were able to get it running so smoothly on such old hardware.

one of the coolest things about openstrike is that it runs on the psp's native resolution, which is only 480 x 272 pixels. but despite the low resolution, the game still manages to look pretty good, and it's totally playable. the modder had to get creative with some technical limitations, like using binary space partitioning to cull non-visible areas of the map, and pre-processing graphical assets to bake in lightmaps. it's not the most shiny or dynamic game, but it's still super impressive that it works at all.

apparently, openstrike also works on the ps vita, which is a slightly more powerful handheld console. but even on the ps vita, the game is still pretty lightweight, and it runs with native graphics. i have to say, though, that i'm a bit spoiled by more modern handheld consoles, and the thought of playing a game on aRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
