so, you've probably heard by now that xbox has been doing some major restructuring, and it's been pretty brutal - they cut around 1600 jobs just the other day. what's really caught my attention, though, is how this is affecting some of my favorite game devs, like obsidian. they're the ones behind the amazing fallout: new vegas, and it's just crazy to think that even they aren't safe from all these layoffs.

apparently, around 60-70 people at obsidian have already been let go, which is like a quarter of their staff - that's huge. and it's not just random people, either - some of the devs who got cut have been with the studio for 21 years, which is just heartbreaking. i mean, can you imagine working on the games you love for that long, only to have it all taken away from you like that? it's just so unfair.

i'm also a bit worried about what this means for the games that obsidian is currently working on. they've got a ton of projects in the pipeline, including grounded 2 and some dlc for the outer worlds 2. supposedly, work on those is going to keep going, but it's hard to see how they'll be able to do it with so many talented people gone. i guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out - there's supposed to be some kind of studio-wide meeting today to fill everyone in on the details.
