so, you guys heard about the massive layoffs happening at xbox? it's pretty crazy - they're letting go of around 3,200 people, with 1,600 getting the boot right away and another 1,600 to follow later. and if that wasn't enough, they're also dumping four of their studios: compulsion games, double fine, ninja theory, and undead labs.

i'm still trying to wrap my head around this, but apparently, none of these studios will be shutting down completely. compulsion and double fine will be going independent again, which is kind of cool, i guess - they'll get to keep their ips and work on new games without xbox breathing down their necks. ninja theory and undead labs, on the other hand, are being sold off to new owners, which is a bit more worrisome. i mean, what's going to happen to their games and projects now?

it's not all doom and gloom, though - xbox is saying that no ongoing projects will be cancelled, which is a relief. but there are some other changes happening, like mojang (the minecraft studio) and king (the mobile studio) now reporting directly to the ceo, asha sharma. and get this - arkane, the studio behind some amazing games, is apparently in a bit of a precarious situation, with management having to consult with their works council about "potential strategic options". sounds like things might be getting pretty tough for them.
