so i just heard that obsidian, the studio behind fallout: new vegas, is allegedly working on another fallout game. i'm beyond excited, but at the same time, i'm curious - what will this game even look like? it's been years since new vegas, and the gaming landscape has changed so much.

i used to think that if obsidian ever returned to the fallout series, they'd stick to what they do best: creating an amazing story with deep roleplaying mechanics, set in the american west. new vegas was all about the mojave wasteland, with its own unique factions and vibe, and i loved every minute of it. but now, with the fallout tv show offering its own take on the west coast, things are a bit more complicated.

the tv show has basically filled in some of the gaps in the fallout universe, and bethesda has said that they'll be taking its events into account for future games. that means that the open, empty space that obsidian had to work with last time around isn't so empty anymore. personally, i think this could be a good thing - it means that obsidian might have to get creative and try something new, rather than just revisiting the same old locations and factions.
so, where could obsidian take the series next? some people think they might head to a different part of north america, somewhere that's not been explored in the games before. this could be a great opportunity for the studio to create something entirely new, while still staying true to the spirit of fallout. i'm a bit sad that we might not get to return to the mojave wasteland, but at the same time, i trust obsidian to come up with something amazing.
