so, you guys know how some people just love to mess with classics? like, take something that's been around for ages and just flip it on its head? that's exactly what professor pippin barr has been doing with chess, and i am kinda obsessed with it. he's been releasing these browser-based variants that are just, like, completely absurd and hilarious.

i mean, we're talking about a guy who's taken a game that's all about strategy and skill, and just turned it into this crazy, unpredictable thing. he's done things like add a "fog of war" to the game, or made the board all slippery, or even combined it with other games like candy crush saga. it's just so random and amazing. and the best part is, he's been doing it for years now, and just released another eight variants.

so, what's new this time around? well, there's one where the board is like a travelator, and another where the game is just super slow. and then there's "correspondence", which is actually just a game of chess against professor barr himself. i think that's kinda cool, but also a bit scary - i mean, can you imagine playing against the guy who's been messing with chess for years? preorders aren't really a thing here, since it's all free and browser-based, but you can just head to the site and start playing.
