so i just heard that valve is rolling out some updates to steamos that should make wifi download speeds way faster on devices with wifi antennas. i'm pretty stoked about this, since i'm always playing games on my steam deck and slow wifi can be such a buzzkill. apparently, the new version 3.8.14 is already out, and it fixes a pretty major issue that was causing wifi speeds to be super limited on some routers.

from what i understand, the problem was with something called modulation coding scheme, or mcs for short. it's like a language that routers use to talk to devices and figure out how much bandwidth to give them. but sometimes, routers can give out incorrect info, which means devices end up with way slower speeds than they should. this new update should fix that, and i'm hoping it'll make a big difference for me and all the other steam deck owners out there.

i'm a bit curious about how this update will affect different devices, though. apparently, it's already available for people who have steamos installed on non-valve machines. but for steam deck owners, there's a beta version available that you can download through the beta and preview channels. just be warned, it's a beta, so it might not be totally stable. i'm not sure when the public version will be out, but hopefully it won't take too long.

it's also not clear if or when this update will make it to the steam machine, which is kind of weird since they both run on steamos. i guess we'll just have to wait and see how that plays out. preorders are available at major retailers, so if you're thinking of getting a steam deck or steam machine, you might want to check those out. anyway,Read more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
