so i just heard about the whole microtransaction drama with assassin's creed black flag resynced, and i have to say, it's pretty interesting. basically, the game has a ton of dlc available, including outfits, weapons, and even a map-reveal pack, which has some players feeling like they're being nickel-and-dimed. and honestly, i can see why - it's frustrating when you buy a game and then feel like you need to spend even more money to get the full experience.

the thing is, ubisoft is actually responding to some of the criticism, which is kind of surprising. they're saying that the standard edition of the game is the full experience, and that all the extra dlc is just optional. they're trying to reassure players that they don't need to buy any of the extra stuff to enjoy the game, but it's hard not to feel like they're just trying to justify their monetization strategy. i mean, it's not like they're removing the microtransactions or anything - they're just telling players that they have the power to choose whether or not to buy them.

i haven't played black flag resynced myself, but from what i've heard, the game is pretty fun. however, the way the microtransactions are implemented is pretty annoying. apparently, it's really easy to accidentally end up on the store page while you're playing, which can be frustrating. and even if the dlc is optional, it's still weird that they're trying to sell you extra stuff right from the start. it feels like they're trying to make as much money as possible, rather than focusing on giving players a great experience.
