so i just heard that sony is planning to stop making game discs by 2028 and i'm still trying to process it all. apparently, ubisoft's ceo yves guillemot isn't too worried about it though - he thinks it might even be a good thing. i mean, i can see why he'd say that, considering how well digital stores like steam have worked out for pc gamers.



but at the same time, i'm a bit concerned about what this means for us console players. i love being able to trade in my old games for new ones, and i'm not sure how that's going to work in a digital-only world. guillemot seems to think that the lack of physical discs will make consoles more affordable, which could be a plus. and who knows, maybe we'll get some awesome digital deals like they do on steam.



i guess what's bothering me is that consoles are a lot more restrictive than pc when it comes to digital stores. the playstation store is pretty tightly controlled, and i'm not sure if sony will loosen up once they go all-digital. it's hard to say how this will all play out, but i'm hoping that we'll still have some freedom to choose how we buy and play our games. preorders are available at major retailers, so i suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens next.
