so i just got done playing through the latest world of warcraft content and i'm still trying to wrap my head around why blizzard does this one thing that just feels super frustrating. basically, when a new raid drops, they have this thing called story mode that's supposed to be a more casual, soloable version of the raid - which is awesome, because it lets people like me see the story without having to deal with a bunch of randos in a group.

the problem is, story mode is always time-gated, which means you have to wait a whole week after the raid comes out to play it. and i'm just not getting why they do this. i mean, i can kinda see why they might want to hold off on the looking for raid (lfr) version, since that's still a bit more challenging and they want to make sure it's all balanced and stuff. but story mode is literally just for people who want to see the story, so what's the harm in letting us play it right away?

i've been really enjoying the story in world of warcraft lately, especially with the new midnight content. there are some really cool character arcs and plot twists, and i love how they're breaking up the raids into smaller, more episodic chunks. it feels like they're really trying to make the story more accessible and easy to follow, which is great. but then they go and do this thing where they make you wait a week to play the story mode, and it just feels like it defeats the purpose.
