so, i was a bit worried that it wouldn't live up to the original super mario bros movie, but it's actually done really well for itself. it didn't quite beat the original's opening weekend, but it came pretty close with a global debut of $372.6 million. that's still a huge deal, and it's now the second-best opening for the production studio illumination. i'm so happy to see nintendo's beloved characters getting the recognition they deserve on the big screen.
