omg, you guys, so there's this huge issue with scalpers buying up all the pokemon cards and reselling them for crazy prices, and nintendo is trying to fight back. they just announced that they're introducing a facial recognition system in their pokemon stores in japan, which is kinda wild. the idea is to make sure people can't just keep going in and buying up all the stock, and then reselling it online for a profit.



so here's how it's gonna work: when you go into a pokemon store in japan, they'll scan your face to make sure you haven't been in there already that day. if you have, you won't be able to get in again, which is supposed to prevent scalpers from buying up all the good stuff. the only people who don't have to do this are kids under a certain age, which is pretty cool. i mean, who wants to scan a little kid's face just to buy some pokemon cards, right?



i'm not totally sure how i feel about this, to be honest. on the one hand, it's pretty cool that nintendo is trying to stop scalpers, because those guys are the worst. but on the other hand, it's a little creepy to think about having your face scanned every time you go into a store. and what if the system messes up or something? i've had issues with the online pokemon centre before, where it just wouldn't work right and i couldn't get my pre-order in. i hope this facial recognition thing doesn't have the same problems.
