omg, have you guys heard about car park capital? it's this super weird tycoon game where you get to destroy the environment and make everyone dependent on cars. i know it sounds kinda messed up, but it's actually really gorgeous and i'm kinda obsessed with the idea.

so, the game is all about taking a green map and covering it in asphalt. you can build billboards to brainwash people into loving cars, and even sell them silly cars like banana-mobiles. the dev, hilko janssen, has been working on it for a while now, and recently got a publisher, microprose. i was hoping they might tone down the whole "destroy the planet" vibe, but nope, they're just adding more crazy features like riot police and nuisance parking.

one of the coolest (or worst, depending on how you look at it) things about car park capital is the attention to detail. you can build drive-thru facilities, like giant toilets and hamburger stands, so people never have to leave their cars. and if you want to run a fast food joint, you'll need to set up a whole beef industry, complete with giant sausage machines. it's all very cartoonish, but it's also kinda disturbing when you think about it.
apparently, the dev was inspired by old american car propaganda, and even did an interview with parking reform about how car dependency is a real issue in some places. he talked about how where he lives, in the netherlands, they used to have plans to fill in canals with concrete to make roads, but thankfully that never happened. it's clear that he's passionate about the topic, and it shows in the game.
