so i just found out that the elder scrolls online has debuted its first ever seasonal content, called return of the thieves guild, and i'm not really sure how to feel about it. on the one hand, it's super exciting to see new content coming to one of my favorite games, but on the other hand, the timing is pretty terrible. just days ago, we heard that zenimax online studios, the team behind the game, had to lay off over 200 employees, which is more than half of the development team.

i mean, can you imagine working on a project for years and then just being let go like that? it's heartbreaking, and it's no wonder that the community is more focused on sending well wishes to the affected devs than actually talking about the new season. i've been reading through the comments on steam and youtube, and it's all just really sad. people are saying things like "surprised there was anyone left to post this" and "hope you can keep the game going, or better yet, find independence from microsoft".

the new season itself seems pretty cool, from what i've seen. it's all about the thieves guild, and it looks like there's going to be a lot of new content to explore. but honestly, it's hard to get excited about it when you know that so many talented people lost their jobs. i've been playing eso for years, and it's always been one of my favorite games, but this just feels like a big slap in the face. i'm not sure what the future holds for the game, but i hope that the remaining devs are going to be okay.
