so i just heard about this new game stranger than heaven from rgg studio, the same devs behind like a dragon and yakuza. it's a crime brawler that explores the origins of the tojo clan, and it's getting a lot of attention because it features a digitally resurrected version of tupac shakur. i mean, tupac is a legend, but i'm not sure how i feel about his likeness being used in a game, especially one that's set in 20th century japan.

apparently, the idea to include tupac in the game came about when they cast snoop dogg as a character called orpheus. the devs thought it would be cool to have snoop interact with someone who had a similar relationship with him in real life, and tupac's name came up. they got permission from tupac's family and estate, which is complicated because there's some drama going on with the management of his estate. anyway, the devs say they wanted to create a version of tupac that shows who he might be today, if he were still alive, rather than just recreating his past.

i'm still a bit confused about how tupac fits into the game, to be honest. stranger than heaven is all about japanese history and the tojo clan, so it seems kinda weird to throw tupac into the mix. the devs say they want to explore who he could have been in the present day, but i'm not sure this is the right game to do that. if it were a modern-day like a dragon game, maybe, but stranger than heaven is all about looking back at the past. i guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out when the game is released.
