omg, you guys, i just heard that the story of seasons mobile game is cancelled. like, i know some of you were probably super hyped for it, and i was kinda curious myself. it's been in development since 2019, which is crazy to think about. but apparently, the partnership between marvelous (the publisher) and tencent (the investor) has come to an end.

so, what happened? basically, tencent's subsidiary, image frame investment, bought a 20 percent stake in marvelous back in 2020. but now, marvelous has decided to terminate the alliance, and tencent is pulling out. that means the mobile game is getting cancelled, which is a bummer. the reason given is "business environment and profitability", which is pretty vague, but i guess it just didn't make sense for them to keep going with it.

i'm a bit sad about this, but at the same time, i'm not totally surprised. tencent has been re-evaluating its investments in japanese game developers, and it seems like they're trying to focus on more profitable ventures. maybe this is for the best, though - i mean, story of seasons is an amazing series, and i'd rather see it get the love and care it deserves on console rather than being rushed out on mobile.

on the bright side, the cancellation of the mobile game doesn't affect the upcoming console game, which is still on track. and who knows, maybe marvelous will find a new partner to bring story of seasons to mobile in the future. preorders are available at major retailers, so if you're interested in the console game, you can still get in on that. i'm definitely keeping an eye on it, and i hope it lives up to our expectationsRead more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
