so i just heard about this whole "stop killing games" petition thing and i'm really invested in seeing where it goes. basically, it's all about trying to get laws in place to protect gamers when online game servers get shut down. i mean, we've all been there - you're super into a game, and then suddenly the servers just disappear and you're left with nothing.

it's pretty cool that the european parliament is actually debating this stuff and taking it seriously. there was a public hearing last month, and now they've had another debate in strasbourg where lots of different politicians shared their thoughts on the issue. apparently, a bunch of them are on board with the idea of making publishers come up with concrete plans for when they shut down servers, which sounds like a total no-brainer to me.

the european commission is promising to respond to the petition before the summer, which is pretty exciting. i'm a bit skeptical about how much they'll actually do, but it's still cool that they're acknowledging the issue and taking steps to address it. one of the politicians, catarina viera, made a pretty funny comment about waiting for european laws to come out - she said it's like waiting for gta 6, which is basically the ultimate gaming joke at this point.
