hey guys, so i just read this pretty wild article about steam and its growth over the years. apparently, since valve launched steam direct in 2017, the number of games released on the platform has skyrocketed. like, we're talking over 1500 games per month since february 2025 - that's insane. and get this, in 2025 alone, there were 21,382 new titles launched on steam. that's a lot of games, and it's only getting crazier.

i think what's really driving this growth is the use of ai in game development. apparently, a bunch of steam games now have an ai disclosure, and that number is growing fast. in 2024, only about 10% of games had this disclosure, but by 2025 that number had jumped to almost 20%. and this year, it's already at over 30%. it's pretty clear that ai is changing the game (no pun intended), and it's going to be interesting to see how this affects the steam store as a whole.

so, what does this mean for us gamers? well, for one thing, it's going to get a lot harder to find the good stuff on steam. with so many games being released, it's already tough to sift through everything and find something that's actually worth playing. and with ai-built games flooding the market, it's going to be even tougher for smaller devs to get noticed. i mean, who's going to bother looking for hidden gems when there are thousands of ai-built visual novels to wade through? it's a bit overwhelming, to be honest.

on a more positive note, i did check out the top sellers chart on steam, and it's pretty much what you'd expect. counterRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
