so i just read this thing about the steam deck and steam machine, and i'm kinda worried about their future. like, remember when valve was all about making pc gaming more mainstream friendly? it seems like that's not really happening anymore. apparently, there's been a big drop in steam deck sales, and it's not entirely clear why - but it's probably got something to do with the crazy price increases they had a few months ago.



i mean, the steam deck oled used to be pretty affordable, but now it's like, way out of my budget. the 1tb model went from $649 to $949, and the 512gb one went from $549 to $789. that's a huge jump, and it's all because of the global component shortages and stuff. it's like, valve is trying to make pc gaming more accessible, but then they go and raise the prices to the point where only rich people can afford it.



and don't even get me started on the steam machine. i was so hyped for that thing, but it's just so expensive. it's like, $1,049 for the base model, which is way more than i was expecting. i know i'm not the only one who's been put off by the price, and it's sad because i think the steam machine could've been a really cool way to get into pc gaming. but now it just seems like it's not meant to be.



it's also kinda weird that valve's own compatibility module doesn't even acknowledge the steam machine yet. you have to check the steam deck compatibility box to see if a game will work on the steam machine, which is just confusing. and devs aren't really talking about steam machine compatibility either, which makes me think thatRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
