so i just heard about this crazy situation with an indie dev on steam, and i'm still trying to wrap my head around it. apparently, this dev's game, paddle paddle paddle, has had over 55,000 refunds, which is just wild. the dev, mateo covic, is saying that steam's refund policy is way too easy to abuse, and that's what's causing all these refunds.

i can kinda see where he's coming from, though. steam's policy is pretty lenient - if you've played a game for less than two hours and request a refund within two weeks, you can get your money back, no questions asked. and yeah, that does seem like it could be exploited by players who just want to play games for free. covic's saying that even though his game has really positive reviews, like 90% positive, people are still refunding it after playing it for a bit and leaving nice comments.

it's pretty frustrating for the dev, and i can understand why he'd be upset. i mean, he put a lot of work into this game, and it's not like it's a bad game or anything. it's just that some people are taking advantage of the system, and that's not cool. covic's not saying that he wants to get rid of the refund policy or anything, he just wants steam to maybe rethink how it works so that it's not so easy to abuse.
one thing that's interesting is that some players are refunding the game for reasons that have nothing to do with its length. like, some people are just straight up saying that the game is bad, or that it's not what they expected. and that's fair, i guess. if you don't like a game, youRead more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
