so, you know how magic: the gathering has those super limited edition card drops called secret lair? yeah, they're basically reskinned versions of existing cards with brand new artwork, and they're always super hard to get. anyway, the latest one is a stardew valley theme, and let's just say the fans are having some pretty strong reactions to the artwork.



i mean, i get it - stardew valley has a super dedicated fanbase, and people have built their own little world on top of the game. so when the new artwork doesn't quite match their vision, it can be a bit jarring. like, take elliott - he's this romantic interest in the game, and fans have always imagined him as this adorable, bishonen-type guy. but in the new magic card artwork, he's... not that. he's more like a rugged, square-jawed type, and fans are totally roasting him for it.



it's not just elliott, though - other characters like penny and leah are getting the same treatment. penny's got ringlets instead of buns, and leah is... curvier than some fans expected. but you know what? i kind of love the new artwork. it's quirky and fun, and it feels like the artists really got the spirit of stardew valley. like, there's this one card that's a perfect magic card given a stardew makeover, and it's just full of little details that show the artists really care.
