Sony is reportedly in talks to acquire a big-screen adaptation of Electronic Arts' Battlefield, with Christopher McQuarrie attached to write, direct and produce, and Michael B. Jordan on board to produce.

As reported by Variety, Sony declined to comment on the negotiations, which reportedly followed a bidding war between multiple studios.

Jordan, fresh off his Best Actor Oscar win, could also end up starring in the film, though Variety notes that's dependent on several factors. Additional producers named include EA's Jesse Stern, Emerald Neon's Carter Swan, Vertigo's Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, and Outlier Society's Elizabeth Raposo.

Battlefield launched in 2002. The series' 18th mainline instalment, Battlefield 6, arrived last year and went on to become the bestselling first-person shooter of the year, and of the franchise's history, reportedly outselling Call of Duty (which is getting its own film treatment, of course, with Peter Berg directing a Taylor Sheridan script for Paramount, dated for release on 30th June 2028).

Battlefield recently unveiled Rapid Royale, Redsec's version of Warzone's Resurgence. Resurgence takes place on dedicated maps that are far smaller than the main mode's large playground, and offers many ways to respawn after death. The pace is significantly faster with more frequent firefights as a result.
