omg, you guys, have you heard the latest about sony and their plans to ditch physical discs for playstation games? it's been a huge deal, with a lot of people freaking out about it. apparently, sony knew this was coming and has been preparing for the backlash - they've even issued super strict social media guidelines for their staff to try and contain the fallout.

i can kinda see why they'd do this, i mean, digital is the way of the future, right? but at the same time, there's just something about having a physical copy of a game that can't be beat. and it's not just sony's own games that are going to be affected - all new releases on playstation, including third-party titles, will be digital-only from january 2028 onwards. that's a pretty big change, and i can see why people are upset.

according to someone who used to work at sony santa monica studio, the guidelines they've been given are the strictest they've ever seen. this person, alanah pearce, said that sony must have known this was going to be a huge pr issue, and that's why they're being so careful about what their staff say online. it makes sense, i guess - sony doesn't want their employees going off and saying something that'll make the situation even worse.
i'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing, to be honest. i love playing old games on my retro consoles, and there's just something about having a physical disc that feels more... real, i guess. but at the same time, i know a lot of people who prefer digital games, and it's definitely more convenient in some ways. preorders are available at major retailersRead more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
