so, you've probably heard the news by now - sony is ditching physical discs for playstation games starting january 2028. it's pretty big, and kind of sad for us retro gaming fans who love our physical copies. but, it seems like there's a bit of a loophole for developers who want to keep printing discs for their games.

basically, sony is telling devs that they can still order physical discs for their games, as long as the game was released before january 2028. so, if a game comes out in, say, december 2027, the devs can still print more discs for it after the cutoff date. it's not a huge deal, but it's nice to know that some games will still be available in physical form, even if it's just for a little while longer.

one thing that's kind of interesting is that sony is also going to let publishers release new games at retail using digital codes. this means that you'll be able to buy a physical copy of a game, but instead of getting a disc, you'll get a code to download the game from the playstation store. it's not the same as having a real disc, but i guess it's better than nothing. and hey, at least we'll still be able to buy games from our local game stores, even if they're not always going to be physical.

i'm not sure what to think about all of this, to be honest. on the one hand, i get that consumer trends are changing and more people are downloading their games instead of buying physical copies. but on the other hand, there's just something so nice about having a physical copy of a game that you can hold in your hands and display on your shelf. preRead more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
