okay, so you guys know how the steam machine is kinda hard to get and super pricey? well, that's not stopping the community from getting creative. someone just made a custom faceplate that doubles as a charging stand for the steam controller, and it's actually pretty cool.

i'm loving the fact that it uses the magnets in the charging puck to hold the controller in place - no need for a separate shelf or anything. the plate just holds the puck with some friction, and there's a little spot for the usb type-c cable to fit in. it's also worth noting that the wire doesn't stick out of the top, so it looks pretty clean. you can even use the faceplate as a stand on its own, although it might look a bit funny without the controller.

the creator is still tweaking the design, but it's already getting some attention. one commenter described it as "slightly ugly, and insanely functional", which i think is a pretty fair assessment. personally, i think it looks kinda cute with the controller in it, but a bit hollow when it's empty. still, it solves a problem i've had with the steam controller - not having a charging stand. i mean, the puck is a great idea, but it's just so easy to leave the controller lying around and not charging.

i'm super curious to see what other mods people come up with for the steam machine, especially since valve has released the cad design files for both the machine and the controller. it's a bit of a bummer that they're shared under a creative commons license that doesn't allow for commercial use, but hey, that's not stopping people from making cool stuff. preorders are available at major retailers, and i'm sure we'll see more creative mods like thisRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
