omg, you guys, have you heard the news about electronic arts (ea) being bought out by saudi arabia and some other investors for a whopping $55 billion? i'm still trying to wrap my head around it, to be honest. this deal has been in the works for a while now, and it just got the green light from the european commission, which is pretty huge.



so, what does this mean exactly? well, the european commission is basically saying that this buyout won't hurt competition in the gaming market, at least not in the eu region. they think the impact will be pretty limited, and that's why they're approving it. but, i have to wonder, what about the potential impact on ea workers? i mean, we're talking about a country with a pretty questionable human rights record, and that's definitely not something to take lightly.



i know some of you might be thinking, "wait, isn't this deal still being looked at by the federal trade commission in the us?" and yeah, that's true. there are still some lawmakers who are concerned about how this buyout could affect workers and the gaming industry as a whole. in fact, 46 us lawmakers signed a letter earlier this year asking the ftc to investigate the deal further. so, while the european commission might be on board, this thing is far from a done deal just yet.
