omg, you guys, have you heard about the new fallout game that's supposedly in the works at obsidian? i'm super stoked because josh sawyer, the director of fallout: new vegas, is reportedly leading the project. he's all about creating this sense of agony when you play an rpg, where you're not just some all-powerful hero who can solve everything with a few punches or laser blasts.

i love this approach, btw. it's so different from the usual power fantasy vibe we get in a lot of rpgs. sawyer wants players to feel frustrated and uncertain about the choices they make, like they're not always going to get the outcome they want. he uses the example of eothas from pillars of eternity 2: deadfire, this big god dude who you can't just defeat with your character's awesome skills. instead, you have to make tough decisions that have real consequences, and that's what makes the game so compelling.

it's interesting to compare this to bethesda's approach to rpgs, especially in their mainline fallout games. todd howard, the director, is all about giving players the freedom to do whatever they want and making the game feel unique to each person. it's like, if you want to try something crazy, the game will let you do it and see what happens. but sawyer's approach is more about creating a sense of realism and uncertainty, where you're not always in control.

i think this difference in approach is what's going to set the two games apart, and it's going to be so cool to see how they both turn out. preorders are available at major retailers, and i'm definitely going to be keeping an eye on this game as it develops.Read more: Full article on www.rockpapershotgun.com
