so, you guys might've heard that apple is teaming up with intel to make chips in the us. what's really interesting is that this deal might've been kinda... encouraged by the us government. apparently, tim cook met with some white house folks last summer to try and get them to cancel plans for tariffs on semiconductor imports.

anyway, it seems like apple got a sweet deal - they won't have to pay those tariffs, and in return, they're gonna invest a whopping $100 billion in us manufacturing. but here's the thing: the us government also decided to take a $9 billion stake in intel, which is pretty wild. now, intel is gonna be making chips for mac laptops and iphones, which is a big change for apple.

i'm not really sure how to feel about this, to be honest. on the one hand, it's cool that apple is trying to avoid those tariffs and make some chips in the us. on the other hand, it's a bit weird that the us government is so involved in all of this. and intel's stock price has been doing really well lately, which is partly because of all the demand for cpu servers, but also because of the us government's support.
i guess what's really important to note is that intel and the us government are pretty tight, apparently. the intel ceo visits washington all the time, and they talk to each other on the phone regularly. it's all a bit mysterious, but it seems like this deal is gonna be good for everyone involved - apple gets to make some chips without paying tariffs, and intel gets a bunch of support from the us government.

preorders are available at major retailers, but i'm not really sure if i'd jump on this just yet. i meanRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
