so you guys remember when openai's bot beat those pro dota 2 players a few years back? that was pretty wild, right? it turns out that was partly thanks to elon musk scoring a sweet deal on some serious computing power from microsoft. apparently, he personally called up microsoft's ceo, satya nadella, to ask for a discount on all that compute, and nadella was like, sure thing.

i'm not sure what's more impressive, the fact that openai's bot could beat human players or the fact that elon musk can just call up the ceo of microsoft and get a discount on whatever he wants. i mean, i guess that's just how things work when you're a billionaire, but still. anyway, it's pretty cool to see how all this went down, and it's even cooler to think about how far openai has come since then.

so, for those who don't know, openai's bot was trained on a ton of games - like, 180 years' worth of dota 2 games every day. that's a lot of gameplay, and it paid off when the bot beat a team of human players in a 5v5 matchup. the humans didn't stand a chance, and it was pretty funny to watch. although, in the third game, the bot did lose after twitch chat gave it a pretty terrible team composition. i guess even ai can't overcome a bad team, huh?
