so i just heard that basically every single online game dev in japan is using ai in some way, which is kinda wild to think about. i mean, ai is still a pretty divisive topic, especially when it comes to game development. some people are all for it, while others are super against it.

i'm not gonna lie, i'm a bit skeptical about ai myself. i love playing retro games and browser games, and there's just something about the imperfections and quirks of old-school gaming that ai can't really replicate. but at the same time, i can see how ai could be useful for certain things, like analyzing user data or predicting player behavior. it's just when ai starts to replace human creativity that i get a bit worried.

apparently, most of the japanese devs who are using ai are using it for pretty mundane stuff, like user preference analysis and user behavior prediction. which, i guess, is better than using it to generate art or music or something. but still, it's hard not to wonder what other ways ai is being used in the gaming industry. are some devs using it to create entire games, or to replace human voice actors? it's a bit unsettling to think about.

i did find it interesting that the study mentioned which ai tools are being used the most. apparently, google gemini is the most popular, followed by claude and github copilot. i'm not really sure what any of those tools do, but it's cool to see that there are so many different options available. preorders are available at major retailers, if you're into that sort of thing.
