so i just heard that sony is basically taking away some of the digital movies that people have already purchased from their playstation libraries. this is pretty wild, right? apparently it's because of some licensing issues with studio canal, and it's going to affect a ton of movies - like, over 500 of them. some of the titles that are getting removed include alan partridge, terminator 2, and evil dead, which is pretty lame if you ask me.

i mean, i get that licensing agreements can be complicated and all that, but it's still pretty frustrating for people who have already paid for these movies. it's not like they're getting a refund or anything, the movies are just going to disappear from their libraries on september 1st. and the worst part is, sony doesn't even seem to be apologizing for it - they just sent out a pretty blunt email saying that the movies are going to be removed and that's it.

it's also pretty interesting to see how this is affecting people's perceptions of digital ownership. like, when you buy a digital product, you don't really own it in the same way that you would own a physical copy. there are usually all these terms and conditions that you agree to when you make a purchase, and they can be pretty vague. it's only when something like this happens that people start to realize what they're really getting into.
preorders are available at major retailers, but i'm not sure if that's really going to matter for these movies anymore. i guess the lesson here is to be careful when you're buying digital products, and to always read the fine print. but at the same time, it's hard not to feel like sony is just pulling the rug out from under its customers.Read more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
