so i just saw the latest report on the gaming industry and it's pretty mixed. basically, spending on games and hardware has dropped by 21 percent compared to last year, which is kinda worrying. but on the other hand, we're only halfway through the year, and with some big titles coming out soon, things might pick up.

one thing that caught my eye is that xbox is actually the only platform that's seen growth in hardware spending, with the series x/s consoles doing way better than they were last year. but, let's be real, it's not like they had a super high bar to clear or anything. still, it's cool to see them doing well, and i'm curious to see how they'll keep it up.

hardware spending in general is where things are really struggling, though. it dropped by a whopping 62 percent compared to last year, which is pretty crazy. and yeah, i get that last year was a special case because of the nintendo switch 2 launch, but still. the switch 2 itself saw a huge drop in sales, which isn't surprising, but the playstation 5 actually did a bit better than expected.
in terms of games, ufc 6 was the top-selling new release in june, which is no surprise. but what is cool is that mecha chameleon, that weird and wonderful steam game, sold over 4 million copies, which is just wild. and star fox debuted at number four, which is pretty nice to see. overall, though, game content spending was down by 12 percent, which is a bummer.

one bright spot is that subscriptions are actually up by 7 percent, which is cool. and with some big games coming out soon, like assassin's creed and haloRead more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
