omg, you guys, i just heard the news that obsidian, the devs behind fallout: new vegas, are supposedly working on a new fallout game. i'm talking the same people who brought us one of my all-time fave games, and now they're back to tackle the post-apocalyptic world once more. this should be a dream come true for me, but honestly, it's all feeling a bit bittersweet.

i mean, let's get the good stuff out of the way - josh sawyer, the director of new vegas, is reportedly at the helm of this new project. that's pretty exciting, considering how much i adore the work he's done in the past. but here's the thing: this announcement comes on the heels of some major layoffs at microsoft, with around 1600 people losing their jobs. and it just so happens that obsidian was one of the studios affected, with a significant chunk of their workforce getting let go.

it's hard not to feel for the devs who are now being asked to work on this new fallout game, especially when it seems like it's more of a management decision rather than a passion project. i know that studios have to make games that sell, but it's sad to see a team like obsidian being forced to put other projects on the backburner, like the avowed sequel. apparently, some staff will still be working on avowed, but it's unclear what the future holds for that game.
