omg, have you guys heard about the latest mod for metal gear solid 2 on pc? it's literally a dream come true for anyone who loves the original game. basically, a modder named afevis has been working on a project called mgshdfix, which aims to restore all the missing visual effects from the ps2 version that were lost in the hd collection.

so, the story goes that the hd collection was handled by bluepoint, and they did a pretty good job, but they left out a ton of stuff that was in the original game. and get this - some of those missing effects were still marked as "bluepoint to-do" in the source code, which is just crazy. anyway, afevis has been hard at work restoring all those effects, and the latest version of the mod is seriously impressive.

i mean, we're talking about stuff like water effects, cutscene filters, motion trails, and even bloodstains on guards - all the little details that make the game feel more immersive and realistic. and the best part is that it's not just a bunch of random tweaks - afevis has actually gone through the source code and restored the original effects, so it feels like you're playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

one of the coolest things about this mod is that it even fixes some of the regressions that were introduced in the hd collection. for example, the depth of field rendering now works properly, and scales correctly with modern resolutions. it's amazing to think that all this stuff was just sitting there in the code, waiting for someone to come along and fix it.
