A teenager who went missing in Utah more than 17 months ago has been rescued from a home in Oregon after she got in touch with another young player in Among Us.

According to a federal criminal complaint reported by Newsweek and KUTV (via IGN), the girl, who was 15 when she disappeared from Garden City, Utah, on 29th May 2025, began chatting with another teenager in Among Us on or around 15th October this year.

The pair later moved their conversation to a different social media app, where she told them who she was and that she was being held against her will in Oregon. She had been given a phone with no cellular data, which meant she could only get online via wi-fi.

The other teen told their parent, who contacted the FBI on 1st November. Agents listened in on a video call between the parent and the girl, and she was recovered from the house later that day. She is now 17.

Adam Hunter Harmel, 39, of Huntington, Oregon, was arrested during a traffic stop.

According to the US Attorney's Office for the District of Utah, he allegedly met the girl online in May 2025, then drove to Utah to pick her up and took her back to his home across state lines. He was charged on 2nd November with transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and made his first court appearance in Boise, Idaho, on 4th November.

"Our priority in this case was the safe return of the minor victim," said US Attorney Melissa Holyoak. "Those who allegedly exploit and prey upon the most vulnerable members of our communities will be relentlessly investigated and held accountable."

Utah's US Attorney's Office stresses that a complaint is merely an allegation, and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
