omg, you guys, the gaming world is about to get turned upside down. microsoft is reportedly talking about shutting down several of its xbox studios, and i'm still trying to wrap my head around it. the studios in question include double fine, the genius minds behind psychonauts, compulsion games, who are working on south of midnight, and ninja theory, the creators of hellblade. it's like, what even is going on here?



apparently, these studios have started negotiating with microsoft to buy back their independence, which is pretty wild. i mean, can you blame them? who wouldn't want to be their own boss and make their own games without any corporate overlords breathing down their necks. but at the same time, it's scary to think about what could happen if these talks don't go through. we could be looking at some serious studio closures, and that would be a major bummer for the gaming community.



i've been reading that staff at some of these studios are already freaking out, and i don't blame them. i mean, ninja theory just announced their new game, senua, at the xbox games showcase, and now they're facing the possibility of being shut down. it's like, what about all the hard work they put into that game? it's supposed to come out next year on ps5, steam, and xbox, so i'm hoping that at least that project will be safe. but still, it's hard not to worry about the future of these studios and the amazing games they could have made.
