so, you've probably heard the drama about microsoft terminating the accounts of wireguard and veracrypt, right? it's been all over the place, with people thinking it's some big conspiracy to shut down competing devs. but, apparently, it's not as juicy as we thought.

basically, veracrypt is this free, open-source disk encryption software that's kinda like a rival to microsoft's own bitlocker. and wireguard is an open-source vpn protocol that lets you set up a private connection for your data. they're both pretty popular, and when their accounts got terminated, people were like "oh, microsoft's at it again". but, according to scott hanselman, a vp at microsoft, it was just a simple mistake.

apparently, the devs didn't verify their emails, and that's what caused the whole mess. hanselman even said he loves making fun of his own company, but sometimes it's just about checking your emails and verifying your accounts. he's even gone and emailed veracrypt personally to get them unblocked, which is pretty cool, i guess. it just goes to show that not everything is a big conspiracy, sometimes it's just plain old paperwork.

i have to admit, i was kinda excited when i first heard about the whole thing, thinking it was some big scandal. but, now that it's just a simple mistake, i'm a bit disappointed. i mean, it's not like microsoft's never done anything shady before, but in this case, it just seems like a classic blunder. anyway, i'm glad it's all getting sorted out, and wireguard and veracrypt will be back to normal soon.
