i'm so over the usual gaming news, but then i stumbled upon this crazy game called the mound: omen of cthulhu. it's like a lovecraftian extraction game set in 17th century south america, and i'm low-key obsessed. you play as one of four spanish explorers, armed with muskets and crucifixes, trying to survive in a jungle filled with creepy creatures inspired by lovecraft's horror stories.

i have to admit, i wasn't really paying attention to this game until i found out it's made by ace team, the same devs behind zeno clash and the eternal cylinder. they're a chilean studio, and it's interesting to see how they'll interpret the lovecraftian horror genre, especially given the problematic elements in lovecraft's original work. the mound is actually based on a lovecraft novella, but it's been heavily modified to fit the 17th century south american setting.

so, the gameplay involves exploring the jungle, searching for treasure, and completing missions like rescuing sailors and gathering weird mushrooms. but things quickly take a dark turn, with all sorts of terrifying creatures and supernatural events. the jungle itself seems to be alive, and it's super unsettling. i love how the game's atmosphere reminds me of left 4 dead, with the environment feeling like a living, breathing entity that's just waiting to ambush you.

the game has a pretty unique art style, with some seriously grotesque creatures that are equal parts fascinating and terrifying. i'm a bit worried about the game's future, though, since the publisher nacon filed for bankruptcy in february. still, ace team has created a demo that's available on steam, and the full game is set to launch on july 15Read more: Full article on www.rockpapershotgun.com
