omg, you guys, i just heard that keychron is making their gaming mouse firmware open-source! like, this is huge news for anyone who's into customizing their gaming setup. basically, keychron is calling out other gaming mouse companies for having super closed-off firmware that you can't even read or change. and i'm kinda loving the drama.



so, keychron is developing this new open-source software called zgm, which is short for zephyr gaming mouse. it's built on zephyr rots and is supposed to be super scalable and modular, which means it can work with lots of different hardware variants. and the best part? it's designed for low-latency input, so it should be perfect for gaming. plus, it'll work with both wired and wireless mice, which is awesome.



i'm really stoked that keychron is doing this, because it means that other gamers can contribute to the software and make it even better. and, of course, it's also a big middle finger to all the other gaming mouse companies that are still using closed-off firmware. keychron is all about being open-source, and it's really cool to see them living up to that. they even have a whole website dedicated to explaining the benefits of open-source gaming mouse firmware, which is pretty neat.

apparently, the zgm software will work with keychron's new g6 he mouse, which is a 46g wireless gaming mouse with some pretty sweet features like a swappable battery and hybrid optical/magnetic switches. but, because it's open-source, other gamers can technically refine it to work with non-compatible hardware, which is awesome. preorders are available at major retailers, if you're interested in checking it out.
