so i just found out about this super interesting game called ithaca, and i'm low-key obsessed already. it's a road trip rpg that's all about dealing with climate resistance and, oh yeah, there's a hostage in the trunk of your car. like, what even is that? the game follows the story of penelope, an environmental rights lawyer who's been trying to sue companies for pollution, but hasn't had much luck.

i love that the game takes place on a road trip, it's such a great setting for a story. you're just driving along, with nothing but your thoughts and the open road, and it's the perfect time to reflect on all your life choices. and, you know, deal with the whole hostage situation. the rpg elements come in through conversations with people you meet along the way, and even phone and text conversations. you can build up penelope's skills, like empathy or manipulation, and shape her personality.

one of the coolest things about ithaca is that the roads are procedurally generated, so each playthrough is different. you'll meet different people, have different conversations, and take different routes. apparently, there are over 30 characters to interact with, which is crazy. it's like, your road trip is going to be totally unique to you. i'm getting some serious locke vibes from this game, if you've seen that movie, you know what i mean. it's all about the intimacy of the story and the characters.
