omg, you guys, have you heard about what just happened to sam altman, the ceo of openai? apparently, someone tried to throw an incendiary device at his house, which is just crazy. luckily, no one got hurt, but it's still super scary. altman took to his blog to share his thoughts on the whole thing, and it's really interesting.



so, altman basically says that he thinks working towards making the world a better place is a moral obligation, and that ai is going to be a huge tool in making that happen. he also acknowledges that people are worried about ai, and that it's valid to have concerns. but he thinks that instead of being all secretive and stuff, ai should be democratized and adaptable. it's like, the more people who have access to it, the less likely it is to be used for bad things, you know?



one thing that really stood out to me was when altman compared ai to the one ring from lord of the rings. he says that it's not that ai is actually like the ring, but more that the idea of controlling ai has this "ring of power" effect that makes people act really weird. it's like, once you see the potential of ai, you can't unsee it, and it can be really tempting to want to be the one in control. i never thought of it that way, but it makes sense.
