so i just read this really cool article about bungie's old games, and it got me thinking - what if they went back to making fantasy strategy games like myth? i mean, extraction shooters are great and all, but there's something about the idea of blowing up zombies with dwarf bombs that just sounds so much more fun.

i guess i should explain what myth is, for those who don't know. it's this old series of low-fantasy strategy games that bungie made back in the day, before they got super famous for halo. apparently, they were a big deal when they came out, and they really helped shake up the strategy game genre. but now, it's kinda hard to find them or get them to run on modern computers, which is a shame.

from what i've learned, myth was actually a bit of an accidental game. bungie was working on another fps, but then they decided it was too similar to quake, so they switched genres entirely. they ended up creating this really unique game that focused on tactical squad management, rather than base-building and army-rushing like other strategy games at the time. and, of course, it had those awesome dwarves with molotov cocktails, which is just the best.
i love how myth seems to be all about using your wits to win. you get a set of units at the start of each mission, and that's it - no reinforcements or anything. so you have to use them carefully, positioning your archers and melee units just right, and making sure your dwarves are bombing the enemy at the right moment. it sounds like such a challenging but rewarding game, and i can see why the author of the article is so nostalgic for it.

it's weird to think that bRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
