omg, you guys, i just heard about the most epic crossover between rock music and videogames - final fantasy 14's in-house band, the primals, just performed at the uk's biggest rock and metal festival, download. i'm talking about a full-on, energetic set with distorted guitars and screaming vocals that would fit right in at any rock show. it's crazy to think that this band, led by ff14 composer masayoshi soken, has been making music that's both nerdy and totally rockin' at the same time.

i can only imagine how hyped the crowd must have been to see the primals take the stage, especially since it was their first non-fan festival appearance outside of asia. and get this - the band barely had time to get nervous before they went on, thanks to a pre-show tour of the festival site and a buggy that didn't show up to take them back to the stage. talk about a wild ride. they basically had to rush on stage and just go for it, which is kind of amazing.

apparently, the primals have a pretty sweet discography going on, but for this set, they had to curate their songs to appeal to both fans and newcomers who might not even know what final fantasy 14 is. they ended up choosing a tight selection of their most energetic tracks, which was a challenge to execute, but totally paid off. the band's drummer was almost dying by the end of the set, and the vocalist was just shouting the whole time - i love it.
