ok so i just got my hands on the logitech rs h-shifter and i'm totally obsessed - it's like, the closest thing to a real racing experience i've ever had in a game. i mean, i've been playing racing games for ages, from burnout paradise to more serious sims, but this thing takes it to a whole new level.

i was testing it out with raceroom racing experience, which is this super quirky game that's a bit of a pain to set up with new hardware. like, most games let you use whatever controls you want, but raceroom is all about authenticity - each car has its own specific shifting style, and if you try to use the wrong one, nothing happens. it's kinda frustrating, but also kinda cool that they're so dedicated to making it feel real.

so, the rs h-shifter is all about h-pattern shifting, which is like, the old school way of doing things. you move the stick up and left for first gear, back for second, and so on - it's way more immersive than just using paddles or a sequential shifter. and the best part is, it's really not that hard to get the hang of - i mean, i was a bit worried that i'd struggle to shift gears while driving, but it actually feels really natural.
one thing that's kinda annoying is that raceroom doesn't really tell you which shifting style each car uses, so you have to figure it out by trial and error. but honestly, it's not that big of a deal - it's just part of the game's charm, you know? and the rs h-shifter is really easy to set up and use, even if you're not super familiar with h-pattern shifting.
