omg, you guys, i just heard the craziest story about harry potter fans and an undersea cable. apparently, there was a plan to lay down a huge power cable linking the uk to ireland, but it was going to go through a spot that's super important to harry potter fans - specifically, the spot where dobby the house elf "died" in the movies.



i mean, i get it, dobby is a beloved character and all, but it's not like it's a real grave or anything. but i guess the fans were so passionate about it that they started calling up the project managers and complaining about the cable going through "dobby's grave". the project manager, simon ludlam, seemed kinda clueless about the whole thing, which is pretty funny. he was just like "who's dobby?" and his colleague had to fill him in on the whole situation.



anyway, the company behind the cable project, etchea energy, ended up deciding to reroute the cable to avoid the spot. which is kinda cool, i guess, but now the cable is going to run close to some actual historical remains from the bronze age. so, it's like, they avoided disturbing a fictional character's "grave", but now they're potentially disturbing some real archaeological stuff. it's just wild to me that people can get so worked up about something that's not even real.
