so, you guys have probably heard the rumors about a potential remaster of fallout: new vegas, right? i mean, who wouldn't want to revisit the mojave wasteland with some shiny new graphics? but, according to chris avellone, one of the writers and a former creative officer at obsidian, we shouldn't get our hopes up. and the reason is actually pretty wild.

apparently, bethesda might not even have the source code for new vegas, which is kinda mind-blowing. avellone claims that the last milestone they had with bethesda was to deliver all the source code and the ability to make the build, but for some reason, obsidian decided not to cash out that milestone. and now, it seems like bethesda might not have all the pieces they need to put together a remaster. i'm not sure what to make of this, but it sounds like a pretty big hurdle to overcome.

i'm a bit surprised that bethesda wouldn't have just, like, made sure they had all the code and stuff before letting the project move forward. but, i guess that's just not how it went down. and now, it sounds like they might be facing some serious challenges if they want to try and remaster new vegas. avellone thinks that even if they did try to do it, they'd have to use some kind of fancy engine workaround, like they did with the oblivion remaster. which, i mean, is cool and all, but it's not exactly the same as having the original code and being able to just, you know, update it.
