so i just found out that alistair mcfarlane, the director of facepunch studios, has left the company. for those who don't know, facepunch is the studio behind the super popular game rust. mcfarlane has been with the company for 11 years, starting out in a qa role and working his way up to become the executive producer on rust. that's a pretty big deal, and it's sad to see him go.

i've always thought mcfarlane was a pretty cool guy, especially since he's always been really active on social media and reddit. he's not afraid to speak his mind and stir up some controversy, which i think is part of why the rust community loves him so much. like, who can forget when he offered to buy new world from amazon for $25 million? or when he hinted that rust 2 was in development, only to have the rumor shot down later? it's stuff like that which makes me think he's a bit of a rebel, and i'm going to miss that about him.

mcfarlane says he's leaving facepunch to focus on other parts of his life, which is totally understandable. he's been working on rust for over a decade, and that's a huge commitment. he's proud of what the team has accomplished, and he should be - rust is still going strong after all these years, with a dedicated community and constant updates. in fact, mcfarlane says the game is currently reaching some of its highest numbers ever, across multiple platforms. that's a testament to the hard work of the development team, and i'm sure mcfarlane is going to be missed.
