so i just stumbled upon this super cool mod for wolfenstein 3d called isowulf, and it's basically a reimagining of the classic game in isometric view. i mean, can you even imagine how different the gaming landscape would be if id software had gone with a top-down approach back in the day? it's crazy to think that we might not have gotten the first-person shooter genre in the same way.

anyway, the mod itself is really well done, and it's clear that the creator, logekyl, is a huge fan of id software's early work. he even mentions how wolfenstein 3d was one of the first games that made him realize that people actually made games, and it inspired him to pursue a career in game development. that's so cool, and it's awesome to see him paying homage to the game in such a unique way.

the mod plays really smoothly, and it's amazing how well the original game's design translates to an isometric perspective. logekyl didn't even have to make that many changes to get it working, which is a testament to how solid the original game's mechanics are. the only thing he really added was a sprite for b.j. blazkowicz, since the first-person game didn't need one. and now, the mod has been updated to include all the original episodes, saving and loading, and even rebindable keys.
