so i just heard that sony is ditching physical discs for the playstation, and i'm still trying to wrap my head around it. apparently, all releases from january 2028 onwards will be digital-only, which is kinda crazy to think about. i mean, i've grown up playing games on discs, and the thought of not being able to hold a physical copy of my favorite games is pretty sad.

i know some people are already freaking out about this, and there's even a petition going around to try and save physical discs. it's called the don't kill the disc petition, and it's already gotten over 286,000 signatures, which is pretty impressive. but despite all the outrage, it looks like the european union isn't going to be able to do much to stop sony from making this change. according to the eu's commissioner for consumer protection, companies have the freedom to offer their games and services however they want, as long as they're not violating any consumer rights.

i guess this makes sense, but it's still hard to accept. i love browsing through game stores and picking out physical copies of my favorite games. it's just not the same when you're downloading a digital version. and what about people who don't have reliable internet connections? how are they supposed to play their games? it seems like sony isn't really considering the wider implications of their decision. preorders are available at major retailers, but it's hard to get excited about buying a digital game when you know it's going to be the only option soon.
